You're implying a world where these are seen as pets and there being enough of a societal structure to support animal rights groups. I am absolutely dying to learn/see what a city looks like in this setting. What are the people like? What kind of weapons does the military use? What do the farms look like? I'm so freakin' curious!!! Keep it up!
